With over five years of experience as a vow coach and ceremony officiant, I am no stranger to wedding trend cycles. With each new year comes fresh color palettes, motifs, aesthetics, and more. As we fully enter the second half of 2025, I find myself reflecting on the trends this year has brought us. More than anything else, I think, 2025 has been about elevation and personalization. It has been about taking something grounded in function or tradition and making it entirely your own. I am a firm believer in the fact that your wedding should feel authentically yours, but I also believe that you can achieve authenticity while staying on trend. If you’ve found yourself struggling to strike that balance during your wedding planning journey, read on! You just might find the perfect addition to your big day.
And, if none of these trends are quite your style, that’s okay! There is a whole world of inspiration out there for you to explore. Loverly’s style quiz and vision board tool are great places to start!
1. Serpentine Tablescapes
Our list begins with one of my absolute favorite recent trends — serpentine tablescapes. A bold twist on traditional rehearsal dinner or reception seating, these tables twist and wind through an event space — like a serpent! And don’t fret; the visual appeal of the tablescapes doesn’t make for a loss of function. If done correctly, a serpentine tablescape can be achieved without sacrificing significant seating space. I will note, though, that tablescapes like the one pictured can only be achieved using real serpentine tables — i.e., not round or square tables arranged in a winding pattern. It is also important to keep in mind that you may need to find special linens to fit the size and style of the table. If that extra effort sounds worth it, serpentine tablescapes could be an excellent way to subtly elevate your reception space.

2) Dramatic Drapery
We move next to a design element with the potential to completely transform a space: drapery. Drapery — particularly dramatic, layered drapery — gives any area that might otherwise feel “flat” more texture and depth. You might use it as a backdrop to elevate your wedding portraits or even drape it from the ceiling to achieve that dreamy canopy effect. And you are certainly not limited to plain white drapery (though the classic look never goes out of style, either!); try using colored or patterned drapes to match your wedding’s overall aesthetic. For example, a wedding with a “garden party” aesthetic might use sage green or peach drapes. However you choose to implement it, this design element is guaranteed to set the stage for an elegant, luxurious celebration.

3) Innovative Lighting Design
An element couples often don’t consider when they visualize their big day is lighting. But, for an event as special as your wedding, it’s important that your venue is well-lit and comfortable. Recent innovations in wedding lighting design aim to balance considerations of function with considerations of aesthetic — in short, lighting designers are asking: How can we make the way a space is lit fresh and exciting? The style of lighting you select for your wedding has become increasingly important to cultivating your desired atmosphere for the event. If you’re aiming for a light, airy, fairytale feel, you might opt for canopied strands of twinkle lights. Or, if you’re drawn to a moodier, vintage aesthetic, hundreds of flickering candles lining the room might be more your speed. So, it isn’t so much that a single style of lighting design is trending. Instead, what’s trending is paying attention to how your ceremony and reception spaces are lit and working to integrate lighting into the event’s overall aesthetic.

4) Fresh Produce As Décor
Of all the trends on this list, using fresh produce as décor was certainly the most shocking to me. Instead of adorning their tables solely with floral arrangements, 2025’s couples are opting for artful fruit and vegetable arrangements! As with flowers, working with fresh produce means having a wide variety of colors and shapes to experiment with. Whether you prefer small citrus accents or luxurious pomegranate centerpieces, the sky is the limit! Further, fruit in particular is “ripe” with symbolic potential. For example, according to the Fine Arts Restoration Company, peaches are thought to symbolize longevity and cherries to symbolize tenderness. So, an arrangement of peaches and cherries might signal your hopes for a long marriage grounded in tenderness and romance. More than anything, though, using fresh produce as décor brings a space to life.

5) “Mocha Mousse” Color Palettes
When Pantone announced “Mocha Mousse” — a rich, earthy brown color — as the color of 2025, I was thrilled. As much as I adore the bright, bold color palettes we’ve been seeing over the past few years, I truly believe that you cannot go wrong with neutrals.
And many couples seem to agree, with Martha Stewart Weddings reporting a 551% increase in Pinterest searches for “mocha wedding theme.” So, how can you integrate this warm, chic shade into your wedding? The possibilities are endless! You might use the color for invitations, floral arrangements, bridal party dresses, your cake… or any other design element your heart desires. With its simultaneously comforting and luxurious qualities, it’s no wonder that Mocha Mousse has taken this year by storm!

6) Guest Dress Codes
It’s a tale as old as time — wedding guests frantically scouring their wardrobes for the “perfect” outfit days before a friend or family member is due to tie the knot. For most, finding attire suited to the weather, the venue, and the wedding’s overall aesthetic feels like an impossible task. So, in an effort to both alleviate that pressure on guests and to ensure that their wedding photos feel cohesive, many couples are choosing to provide specific dress codes and wardrobe moodboards for their guests. For some examples, check out Los Angeles-based influencer and content creator Sophie Allegra’s Lake Como wedding guest attire moodboards! When guests feel in touch with the “vibe” of an event beforehand, their outfits are more likely to contribute to and enhance the event’s aesthetic. If this trend feels a bit over-the-top to you, that’s alright! Communicating a general dress code (black tie, cocktail attire, etc.) and passing along a few inspiration photos is more than enough. I promise that your guests will be grateful!

7) Film Photography
In late 2024, Vogue Weddings predicted that film photography would make a major comeback during 2025 — and they were right! Couples are leaving the consistency and sharpness of digital photos behind for the warm, sentimental feel of film. From their saturated colors to their softened textures, film photos elevate the authenticity factor of your event tenfold. Far more unpredictable than digital photography, film photography also ensures that your wedding photos are truly unique. Factors like shifting exposure and light leaks, says professional wedding photographer Alice André in an interview with The Wed, mean that film photos will never be “perfect.” What they will be, though, is absolutely one-of-a-kind.

8) Interactive Entertainment
Our list concludes with another of my favorite trends — interactive entertainment. Interactive entertainment can mean many things: live painters, acrobats, flair mixologists, tattoo artists, fire dancers… the list goes on! The reason couples choose interactive entertainers is, of course, to elevate and personalize the guest experience. If you’ve read my blog about the importance of tailoring the guest experience, you know that, on your wedding day, there is a degree to which you are the “host.” But, with the help of entertainers who make each guests’ experience feel special, much of the pressure to ensure others are enjoying themselves is lifted from your shoulders. So, as wedding culture becomes increasingly interested in events that are also “experiences”, (for more on this phenomenon, check out my recent interview with the immensely talented Marina Luri-Clark!) interactive entertainers are more valuable than ever.
