In the golden age of the internet, new spouses face a unique challenge: determining the place of social media at their wedding. No matter the size of one’s platform, wedding days are full of potential for social media content, and it’s difficult to choose what to share, when to share it, and how.

For influencer, content creator, and entrepreneur Bianca Jade, social media is her specialty, and she knows it inside and out. I had the pleasure of working with her for her wedding, and for this blog, she shared some tips with me for navigating social media at yours.

First and foremost, for Bianca, intentionality doesn’t conflict with authenticity. As creator of Mizzfit and a fitness and wellness-focused influencer, she’s knowledgeable on how to stay well in the digital age. That includes staying mindful and true to yourself when it comes to sharing important milestones online.

No matter whether your social media account is reserved for friends and family or open for all the world to see, your comfort level is what matters most. If there’s something you don’t want to share on social media, don’t feel pressured to. No matter how open you normally are on social media, it’s best to be intentional when sharing an emotional experience.

If you’re still debating how much social media content you’d like to create around and about your wedding, you should know that one thing is non-negotiable: it should be part of your wedding plans. It’s crucial to make your decisions beforehand by outlining anything you’d like to capture for social media, similar to how you’d plan your photos with your photographer.

The more you’d like social media involved in your wedding, the more thoroughly you need to plan. With this in mind, Bianca noted that this process can be extremely time-consuming, and it’s easier if you’re already experienced with social media.

However, this is not to say it’s impossible — far from it. If you’re confident in your goals, there are considerations you should make in planning your content.

First, you must consider what your audience would like to see. For Bianca, she said she both looked to other influencers’ content for inspiration and developed ideas based on unique ways she could add to the conversation.

After considering the set of posts that would showcase her ceremony— the outfits, the venue, the procession, and of course, the vows — Bianca said that she decided on the type of content she’d like to see and worked to bring it to life.

For example, in the time leading up to their wedding, Bianca and her husband decided to demonstrate their unique creative talents by crafting some details themselves, such as the menus for the reception. She also worked to “co-create” content with vendors.

It was these aspects that she shared with her audience, and what she feels drove up engagement.

“At the end of the day, people want to learn something from your content,” Bianca said. “[The audience doesn’t] just want to see you. I feel like people who just post [themselves] don’t get as much engagement as the people that are there to help someone accomplish something for their own wedding.”

In addition to involving your audience, it’s also crucial that you involve your spouse. Like most things will be soon enough, this is an endeavor you will be taking on together, their day as much as yours. Not only that, but the whole process may become less overwhelming, as you and your spouse each have something unique to offer.

“My husband is a software engineer, web developer, and designer, and he was a painter for many years,” Bianca said. “I’m more of a graphic designer, but I’m also an editor, so we combine all of our creative skills.”

Bianca said she and her husband collaborated on different videos, such as a video of their cake tasting and other aspects of their wedding planning process. Because of this involvement, Bianca and her spouse were able to craft the wedding of their dreams.

“I think because we were both equally in it, we were both really happy with the outcome, and nothing went wrong in our wedding,” Bianca noted.

This is an impressive feat, which she credits not only to her and her husband’s dedication, but also to trusting the professionals, such as your wedding planner or someone like myself.

If you’re a self-recognized perfectionist like Bianca, she said this might be a little difficult, but when it comes to social media, you’ll find that there is beauty in letting go.

Trust me, most of us wedding professionals strive for perfection ourselves, which is why we’re extra focused on making your celebration of love truly memorable.

You can even let someone take the reins of your content the day of your wedding. Of course, you can hand the camera over to a loved one, but even more than that, you can bring in a content creator.

“It’s your wedding, you shouldn’t be capturing at your wedding — you should be present,” Bianca said. “As an influencer, I didn’t start thinking about needing a content creator until I was creating the content about planning my wedding, and then I was like, ‘Wow. I spent a year creating content about the whole process of planning my wedding and all the decisions, [so] I have to have someone there capturing the final product.’”

That’s exactly what content creators do at weddings: capture the fruit of all of your planning while allowing you to remain in the moment. They’re responsible for creating videos, photos, and staying up-to-date with ideas that will engage your audience.

Bianca said that she and Zoey, the content creator she chose to work with, collaborated to manifest a shared vision, and it went splendidly. According to Bianca, combining the content creator’s expertise with her own ideas allowed her to post material that was best for her and her followers.

The videos ranged from fun trends at the time to serious videos focusing on Bianca and her husband. And that content had an impact.

If you share your wedding on social media, one of your goals might align with Bianca’s: making the people viewing your profile feel like they were there. When she attended a New York Fashion Week event, it became apparent that she’d accomplished that goal.

“I was really flattered by it, because it was an important day for me, but it was also really surprising,” Bianca said. “People were coming up to me that I didn’t think followed me…they were all congratulating me, and it felt really good to share it with them.”

When it comes to how she navigated social media at her wedding, Bianca said she has no regrets. At the end of the day, this is what is most important. No matter how much (or little) of the internet you invite to share in the joy of your wedding, it must feel true to you and your spouse. When you look back on your wedding, one thing must be clear: you wouldn’t have it any other way.
